It is time to create a mecha

After covering the Thomas Fire, I thought I was prepared to cover anything. But not this. This is absolutely heartbreaking.

#Borderline #ThousandOaks VCSO Sergeant Ron Helus lost his life tonight trying to save those inside. He has been on the department for 29 years and was set to retire within the next year.

In less than an hour it will have been 1 week since I sent the tweet out that I never thought I would have to send. I never could have imagined what the next few days brought and just how physically, mentally and emotionally draining it has been for many of us.

One year ago at 6:33 PM I sent out this tweet. This fire would become the #ThomasFire and eventually burn 281,893 acres and destroy over 1,000 structures.

VCSO Fillmore SAR Team member Jeff Dye was helping people at a traffic collision when he was struck and killed by another vehicle. We mourn the loss of our family member today.

Moorpark: Shooting just occurred in the area of Goldman Ave and LA Ave. Per deputies at the scene, the victim is obviously deceased. Suspect possibly fled the area in a vehicle. Copter 3 en route to search from the air.

You know who are also heroes? Those working the checkout counters and stocking shelves at supermarkets and pharmacies. Their work, at some risk to their own health, is vital to the health and safety of our country.
