Wellington rose early at Waterloo, his Headquarters. Up well before dawn, it was said he had the energy of a young man. He wrote many letters, personal & offical, gathered his staff & rode south to the Allied positions. He would not set a permanent HQ during the battle.

The last survivors of the Battle of Waterloo. Photographed 65 years after the battle at London’s Royal Hospital in Chelsea in June 1880. Amazingly, John McKay was born aboard HMS Victory in 1785.

One of my favourites; 'The Morning of Waterloo' (by James De Vine Aylward) Shortly before inspecting the lines, Wellington stopped at the cottage on Mt St Jean & was offered hot, sweet tea from a huge camp kettle used by the men of the 95th Rifles.
