This Fall, roughly 1 in 10 District households with children reported that they didn't have enough food to eat in the past week - and the rate was nearly 2x as high for Black households. Of these, nearly half said food was unaffordable. #WednesdayWisdom #DCKidsCount

Blaming increased violence on people who use housing vouchers and services from DC Human Services is racist, wrong, and harmful. Residents are actively encouraging people to testify at 2/21 DHS oversight hearings to show displeasure at having to live near voucher holders.

All great questions. A few more: What do we do when violent crime is down 48% over the last 15 years - meaning we are actually safer - but people *feel* less safe? What do we do when interventions that may make people feel safe cause harm & do little to actually make us safer?

Also, we really need to stop scapegoating children in conversations around crime. Children do not decide to be born into poverty. Children do not decide to be victimized & traumatized. Children are not manufacturing guns with reckless abandon.

Children are not underfunding our schools. Children are not prioritizing police & jails over behavioral health & human services supports. Children are not slumlords or developers who displace long term residents.
