Constantly navigating systemic racism is exhausting and forces people to persevere rather than than thrive and flourish. The negative impacts are even greater for women as they have to deal with the intersections of racism with gender and other identity factors👇🏾

In academia & beyond we are dissected by a white gaze & positioned as intellectually inferior. If someone makes you feel inadequate, remember that your presence & knowledge threatens their historically uncontested position. Mediocrity loves to hide under a projected arrogance.

The frequent use of the term "return to work" when referencing the mandated return to the office for Canadian federal public servants gives us a hint as to why there's a mandate - because there's a deep cultural belief that work is an activity that belongs in an office building.

If being “open” and “raw” goes against the expected #GC leadership behaviours then I will be okay with that. My leadership doesn’t require the title of EX to do this work. Those who know what leadership really is know it isn’t just the title, it’s the actions that matter most.
