The day I was beaten by mummy Killdeer in an open field. I went too close to her babies. The Killdeer is a shorebird and they are sexually mature at 1 year. The young fledge about 31 days after hatching. #nature #Jamaica #bird

The global shorebird count has begun. We have several species which can be seen on the coast, wetlands, flooded fields and also at the edge sewage ponds. The smallest shorebird in the world is the Least Sandpiper. Have you seen it before? #Roostersworldja

I totally agree with you. Plus we have a culture of releasing unwanted pets in the wild (bush). These unwanted pets will starve or eat our native animals. Did you know that feral dogs are the only predators that can kill an adult Jamaican iguana in Jamaica?

During the hike we found a spring in the Alligator Hole Area. Our guide told us that it is safe to drink the water from these natural springs and he has been doing it since he was a boy. #FunTimes #Exploring #Clarendon #Roostersworldja #ReggaeHikers

If you know any buildings, caves or holes in the ground that you see Ratbats coming out in the Kingston area, please share the location. We are currently acoustic studies on the bat species that roost in the area. #Roostersworldja

Coccidia is a really sneaky killer of kittens and puppies. If they’re not thriving despite being dewormed, persistent vomiting/diarreha and ESPECIALLY if you find or rescue a kitten (even from a shelter), bring them in for a fecal screening

A number of people were asking if Galliwasp is poisonous and also if you will die if bitten and it reaches water before you. The Galliwasp is a lizard and is not poisonous. We have 10 species which are found only in Jamaica. They are afraid of humans and will surely run away.
