This was a very good discussion with multiple perspectives. There was a chastening recognition that while we are doing many of the right things & relationships may well be stronger, overall the nation's resilience is probably less than pre-Covid. We need to act. Lisa Jane Hollins

Brilliant discussion at our fringe event with Scottish Refugee Council 🧡 The VOICES Network 🧡 at #SNP23 on how we can strengthen protections for people seeking safety in Scotland, w Emma Roddick. There has been a lot of positive action in Scotland but with new challenges, there is more to do.

Campaign win! 🎉 Proposals to close almost all ticket offices in England have been scrapped following huge opposition. Thanks to every one of you who took action. You responded to the consultation, and you made your voices heard up and down the country. ❤️

We were so pleased to convene an event, in partnership with British Future & hosted by APPG on Social Integration on Developing a Sustainable Plan for Refugee Accommodation. We heard from an excellent panel about challenges refugees face securing accommodation and potential solutions.

Too many new refugees fall destitute because the 28-day 'move-on' period is not long enough to find a new home, seek employment or access benefits. Our senior officer, Tamara, recommends extending this period to 56 days at the APPG on Migration & APPG on Poverty and Inequality evidence session.

We were pleased to contribute to this report, and we agree with it's summary that we need a fully integrated healthcare sector where people are given the type of care they need, in the way that works best for them. The title says it all: "Patients at the centre".

Brilliant to see Lilian Greenwood raise the importance of #tacklingloneliness in Parliament today and emphasise the need to refresh the national strategy. The UK has come a long way since the publication of the first strategy in 2018, but there is still much more to do.

Understanding how the British Red Cross 🧡 is providing vital humanitarian aid to those affected by the conflict in the Middle East. Staff and volunteers continue to work day and night to bring life-saving assistance and medical treatment to those who need it most.

Volodymr*, his wife, Anna*, and their two children came to the UK on the #Ukraine Family Visa Scheme in 2022. It was difficult for Anna to find work because she doesn't speak English, and their eldest son has special educational needs. ⬇

There has been a 330% increase in the number of withdrawn asylum claims in 2023 compared to 2022. We are concerned that people are at risk of destitution and exploitation. We need better data to provide support for those in need. #EveryRefugeeMatters news.sky.com/story/withdraw…

We welcome this joint report from APPG on Poverty and Inequality and APPG on Migration on the effects of UK immigration, asylum and refugee policy on poverty. The British Red Cross provided oral and written evidence to the inquiry and we are pleased to see our recommendations adopted.
