Sad to hear the end of #WCBS Radio in New York. It was part of my soundtrack of the city when I lived there. And it’s now another loss for factual news broadcasting. northjersey.com/story/opinion/…

A new Selwyn College bridging course starts today. It’s part of our commitment to widening participation and showing that the college and Cambridge University are open to the most talented students irrespective of background. sel.cam.ac.uk/news/bridging-…

Two global media leaders are Selwyn alumni. In our magazine, David Thomson of Thomson Reuters writes about his family and journalism: sel.cam.ac.uk/selwyn-magazin… And Tim Davie, DG of the BBC, makes the case for the corporation’s role in the digital age: sel.cam.ac.uk/selwyn-magazin…

We hugely enjoyed hosting members of the 1964 and 1969 year groups at a reunion to celebrate their 60th and 55th anniversaries of joining Selwyn and Cambridge University. Photo by Thisath

Many congratulations, Wadham College. Much better than I did playing for the Wadham #universitychallenge team back in 1978, and the quizzing since then has become tougher.

This is fine. But the key question is about maintaining quality. It's perfectly possible to do that online, but you mustn't be seduced by what gets the easy clicks: public service media has to be distinctive.

If you're in #Cambridge next Wednesday, I'll be talking at the Fitzwilliam Museum about the Olympics and the media. Based on the current exhibition about Paris 1924, there might be quite a bit about London 2012 too. All welcome. tickets.museums.cam.ac.uk/8438/8447

Bonkers ESRC decision not to continue funding Anand Menon and UK in a Changing Europe, when proper understanding of Brexit impact and how to re-invent relations with Europe more important than ever. Nothing less than intellectual vandalism ! Who out there can help?

The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 confirms an excellent performance by Selwyn students in the recent exams. The college is also in first place for the percentage of students receiving “good honours”: first and 2:1s. Congratulations to them all.

I loved the Orange Tree Theatre’s #HereInAmerica. It’s an exciting but subtle piece of writing by David Edgar: partly about today, but not battering home the points. It allows you to make up your own mind. Brilliant acting, too. orangetreetheatre.co.uk/whats-on/here-…
