⚠️2⃣0⃣2⃣2⃣ #Marineheatwave impacts are already here. 👉Severe mass mortality are affecting corals, sponges, bryozoans and other species along the #Mediterranean French coast ℹ️ Other MED areas are also affected but so far the reported impacts are not so severe Keep watching🤿

As floods & fires rise, oceans boil & ice melts, and "safe" temperatures are breached, something momentous just happened in the heart of the EU. No one has heard about it: journalists were present, but their editors refused to publish 🤯. 🧵, please RT. #BeyondGrowth2023 1/

Been working on marine heatwaves for over 10 years now and always thought they would never be ecologically impactful in the cool waters around uk and ireland but this is unprecedented and possibly devastating

Very happy to announce the release of [heatwave3](robwschlegel.github.io/heatwave3/inde…), an extension of the [heatwaveR](robwschlegel.github.io/heatwaveR/inde…) package that helps us to detect #marineheatwaves directly on NetCDF files.

The CHOC LOV, LABO LOV, Sorbonne Université team of the FACE-IT project developed an amazing autonomous flow-through salinity and temperature perturbation mesocosm system for multi-stressor experiments. See here how it worked: EUPolarCluster face-it-project.eu/2024/01/17/tec…

We chatted with Robert Schlegel on his work studying Arctic's ecology . Robert is a research scientist for the FACE-IT project, which research adaptive co-management of social-ecological fjord systems in the Arctic. Read his answer to our Qs in the thread below:

For those that didn't had the chance to participate, the incredible artist Illumine: Scientific illustration by a scientist did an amazing summary of the different topics discussed ! Thank you Adeline ! 😍

And the last training of the day has started, now we're working on Marine Heatwave detection using #heatwaveR with Robert Schlegel . A great way of ending the Liège Colloquium!

The EU Nature Restoration Law aims to restore at least 20%of the EU’s land and sea areas by 2030, and all degraded ecosystems by 2050. With so much at stake, this is a move in the right direction - although the devil is in the detail in implementation. euronews.com/green/2024/06/…

Let's put some number on it. The social cost of carbon from temperature-induced productivity losses is on the order of 73–142$/tCO2 in 2020. This will rise to 92–181$/tCO2 in 2030.
