How can a cell control the size of its organelles? Excited to share a mechanism to control droplet size we recently found. a 🧵 nature.com/articles/s4146…

Excitingly, when we allow the droplets to fuse, the emulsion starts oscillations between periods of small and large droplets. Tiny droplets rain down and fuse at the bottom. There, the large droplets shrink and new tiny droplets nucleate on top.

For a long time we had wondered: what's more important for dictating the "reprogrammability" of cells? is it the cell state or is it the levels of transcription factor level? (1/n) :🧵 Nat B. Wang 🧬🧑🏻‍🔬🏳️‍🌈 Cell Systems MIT ChemE Dept

Yesterday, the NIH R35 “Outstanding Investigator” grant to fund scientists in my lab studying antibiotic resistance was terminated for reasons not related to the content of the science, or any actions taken by me or members of my lab

My two NIH cancer research grants were terminated today. One involving breast cancer prevention is an “outstanding investigator award” and had received a perfect score by reviewers. How does ending lifesaving cancer research make Americans healthier? Harvard Medical School @aacr

The war on science in the US is already affecting private sector research like AlphaFold. Bears repeating but the private sector builds on top of things created by academic research for the public good. This hurts everyone.
