Dr Michael Hill emphasised the importance of speed in thrombectomy. โ€œWeโ€™re not tidy - sacrifice everything for speed. โ€œIf not under 60 minutes from door-to-puncture, youโ€™re not going fast enough.โ€ But even the fastest thrombectomy services in England take over 2 hours. #UKSF24

At #UKSF24 Professor Gillian Mead spoke about bespoke palliative care for stroke patients. โ€œEarly discussions about likely outcome could be more direct. โ€œImportant to be open to what families are saying. โ€œEven as a senior clinician, I still find these conversations difficult.โ€

Professor Mead added, โ€œPlace of death should be discussed, even though, in the event of stroke, hospital is the most likely. Unless we ask, we canโ€™t facilitate. Be open to questions from family: โ€œHow long will it take to die?โ€ Discuss these issues with openness and kindness.
