This early medieval terminal depicts a lion. No, really. Lions in medieval art are famous for looking, well, not like lions (see #NotALion for more joy). They acted more as symbols rather than realistic animals. Here, it's possible that the lion represents the Evangelist St Mark.

Unfortunately, his daughter Lilias fell ill on the trip “Lilias having been attacked with flu… I am thankful to say she seems much better today, but the doctor still keeps her in bed” 2/3

Finally framed this A3 page from the Illustrated London News! I was given it as a gift at the H Rider Haggard Society meeting last year! 🥹 it’s of R. C. Woodville’s illustration of Rider Haggard’s #Cleopatra which I look at in my thesis! Dated May 18th 1889 🎨 #Egyptomania #Reception
