Can some explain why a single pensioner that has worked all their lives and receives £13000 a year is taxed on income yet somebody on benefits getting double the amount pays no tax on benefits?

When this government says disabled people ought to work, we ask: Where are the jobs? The level-access commuter trains? The accessible homes? The carers to dress me at 6am? (Right, Brexit made them leave.) The reduction in wait times for Access to Work, Wheelchair Services?

They knew what they were doing. About 12 MPs voted on this in Parliament and boom, retrospective taxation was in. What was done was as by the rules as they existed at the time, like reducing the speed limit and fining everyone thar had driven faster, retrospectively.....

I will not be voting for cuts to poorest people on welfare benefits. The Chancellor has other options. Picking on disabled people is not the right thing to do

t wasn't mentioned in the Chancellor's speech, but the Spring Statement papers contain a major suite of anti-tax avoidance proposals, probably the toughest ever introduced. Thread:

Let me get this right. Milliband's GB Energy are buying solar panels from China where they're using power from coal burning power stations to manufacture them & then ship them 8000 miles by oil burning ships & then call it green energy ? Am I missing something here ?

there is something very, very, very wrong in the system... 😡 So … let me get this straight: * British Gas made a profit of £1.3bn between January & June * BP announced profits of £6.95 billion between April and June alone * Shell has profited by £9.4bn in a year The MEN

British households should prepare themselves for Terrible Tuesday (April 1st — but it’s no April Fool) when energy, water, council tax, broadband and BBC licence fee will all become more expensive. Then business will be clobbered on April 6 with the £24bn rise in employer

This is pretty cool to see I can’t lie. The Newcastle trophy parade is currently taking place and wow 👏. 300,000 people are expected to show up. Fair play guys fair play

This is absolutely ridiculous. 'The Government’s land use framework states that 9% of England’s farmland will need to be taken out of production for climate goals.' farminguk.com/news/controver…

He speaks for millions of people in the UK. 🎯 “We end up with economically illiterate people in the government. There are not fit for office. This is our money. I’m sick of being asked to pay more and more for less and less.” We are being fleeced.

Jacob Murphy on his goal🗣️"I did mean it, yeah! When the juice is flowing, you've just got to hit it. The defender's come out so it was going to be hard to get it through him so I thought 'aah, just shoot here'. Lovely."

I drove three people to Newcastle and back at a cost of £70 in fuel. The same journey by train - standard class, booked two weeks in advance - costs £450. No wonder the roads are clogged with traffic. The train just isn’t a realistic alternative to the car.

Strong line form Nissan's Alan Johnson. "Simple fact is we (UK) are too expensive. Sunderland is most efficient plant Nissan has but once you've paid your elec, gas, NICs etc we are too expensive - any industrial strategy that doesn't tackle that is a waste of time.

Not Jonas Vingegaard, not Wout van Aert, not Olav Kooij. Visma Lease a Bike's most succesful rider this year so far is the 19-year old Matthew Brennan. Super impressive. #TDR2025
