Take action on IICSA findings rather than kicking them into the long grass. Mandatory reporting. Catch up with Scotland by putting a scheme in place for abuse survivors that includes a fund for mental health and wellbeing support. Do the right thing!

What the Taliban is doing to women and girls in Afghanistan is so unbearably bleak - and the international response has been far too weak thetimes.com/comment/column…

27 years to disclose abuse. That’s 27 years of suffering to the victim, their community and wider society. When they are finally able to speak and be heard, they may have this archaic and Ill-founded limitation law waved at them. Insult to injury! Needs to change asap

Lots from me today, sorry. First, my The Times and The Sunday Times column is about the horrific Pélicot case, and why ignoring relatively small crimes against women always leads to worse ones The French rapist began small. They always do thetimes.com/article/53b8d2…

Tackling people smugglers like I did rioters, says Starmer. But what about the CJS’ handling of rapists? Low conviction rates and delays demand urgent reform. Justice should be tough on all crimes, especially those harming the vulnerable. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/…

'We should continue to view Lucy Letby as a convicted killer.' 'It is crass and insensitive to be waging a public campaign in this way', @wesstreeting tells @Lewis_Goodall, in response to recent online speculation around the nurse's convictions.

A timely reminder tucked away in this piece (all about sex) that the The Church of England's response to Salman Rushdie's ‘The Satanic Verses’ wasn't to defend freedom of expression, but to demand that the government expand the Blasphemy Act to cover other religions, including Islam.

Unregistered schools are leaving British boys "wholly unable to speak, write or read English" says a new report from a Jewish counter-extremism group. Secularists have long called for action to end illegal faith schools to protect child rights. secularism.org.uk/news/2024/09/j…
