Centrist pundits about to spend the next week going "Now the important thing is not to overindex this result and assume a broad-based desire for life to not be nasty brutish and short that the majority of Americans simply don't share..."

Hearing someone say "Death to the IDF" in public to cheers is sanity inducing. How could you conclude anything else from what we see printed every day? And yet it feels unsayable.

Btw if you think “Death to the IDF” is a bad thing to say or chant you don’t get to describe yourself as anti-fascist going forward.

it could be a one off, but Gillibrand being forced to apologize while the manufactured hysteria over Zohran’s refusal to condemn every word in the Arabic language fades without him giving an inch feels like a watershed moment. I think we’re playing by a different set of rules now

What’s the clearest, economically literate explanation of when and why the US budget deficit will become objectively unsustainable?

Whenever I hear about Matt Taibbi I think about how Gen X had higher levels of lead exposure than any other generational cohort.

I would strongly encourage the media reporters I know to investigate the decision-making that went into the publication of this story.

The Times is turning itself into the white collar philistine version of the National Enquirer all because it can’t bear the idea that anyone would object to Israel’s genocide.

Wonder if the pandemic gave some Americans an excuse to act on their already existing discomfort with public spaces. E.g., my dad has refused to ride the subway on NYC visits since the pandemic started. He says it's a health thing, but he still goes to restaurants all the time.

Ok yeah sure, but Zohran *is* a threat to the people who currently run the Democratic party, because the success of his politics would necessarily mean the end of most of their careers. It's OK to embrace that! The goal is to *defeat* these people, not convert them.

Anyone who has spent a minute looking closely at this knows how shoddy the evidence has been so far. So the question to ask, every time, is: what is the new evidence? If the answer is “none,” you don’t have to give it any further thought.
