Six years ago I was made Vicar of this amazing church. I’m profoundly grateful for every single day StNicholasLincoln, where everyone is invited and everyone is welcome.

I am really sad to be the bearer of sad tidings, but St Nicholas Church, Lincoln is suspending all public activities with immediate effect in accordance with the advice of the Archbishops and the Government. Please see the attached for further details.

It was with an incredibly heavy heart that I felt I had to write this, in support of my friends and colleagues who are chaplains in Barts Health Trust. I pray the bishops will find some way of moderating this decision.

I agree. ā€˜God is everywhere’ is an argument that misses the point of sacred spaces. They’re not for God - they’re for us. And the implication that gathering in consecrated buildings is somehow inessential to Christian life and faith may haunt us missionally for a long time.

This is the site of St Paul in the Bail, a late Roman Christian church in Lincoln. There are worse places to queue to buy vegetables.

After contact with Government we hear that there is no change to guidance on places of worship. Worship is the work of God - not a social gathering - and gives the strength to love and serve.

I’m not ignoring the Bible. I’m not being intentionally disobedient. I am privileged daily to see evidence that God can and does bless many different kinds of relationship.

You have a tough day. You feel grumpy. Then this comes out of the oven and you think ā€˜life is good’. Happy New Year’s Eve everyone.
