GEM: a Macintosh-like graphical interface for the Atari ST. The little green desktop has become emblematic of the Computer Golden Age, just like the blue desktop of the Amiga or the black & white of the Macintosh. Legendary pictures. The GEM was also used for early Amstrad PC.

Delightful Prince of Persia. The tenacious effort by Jordan Mechner working alone on the smallest details with the limited resources of the Apple II to make this a jewel of a game set an example for me to follow for my own projects. The DOS version here on my PS/2 is just magnificent

Prince of Persia intro, Amiga version. The sounds are absolutely awesome, graphics too, but there's almost 1 second latency between joystick input and action. For this kind of game, where each pixel counts and where a fraction of a second can make the difference, it's a real con.

Hack the Amstrad CPC’s CRTC and take direct control of the Motorola 6845 chip to get smooth scrolling, split screens, and custom screen modes. Classic demo scene magic!

While upgrading RAM for my Atari ST here, I was surprised to found it was using SIP not SIMM... SIP stands for Single In-Line Package. Apparently it's one of those very early STE models that used this particular type of memory module, with 30 pins as connectors. Very interesting.

Disk sector analysis by Norton on my Amstrad PC1640. If only you could hear the whirring, clicking, seeking, chattering noises of that good 40 year old MFM disk... So sexy!

The Reign of Big Box Games, when great packaging meant something... Watch my story as I first unboxed Ultima VI and explored its great box contents... This was 35 years ago youtu.be/AKj1ItyW3h0

BASIC programming session with my MSX Pasopia IQ (Toshiba HX-21). There are 2 different programs on screen: guess what they do when you hit RUN

Leisure Suit Larry 1 was 1 of the few graphic adventure games I actually finished... Really wanted to see the ending scene of that one, don't ask me why. Yes, "graphic" adventure is the right term here
