Our paper showing that firms earn abnormal returns when their stocks are purchased by U.S. Senators is now available in the Strategic Management Journal. This is my first publication, so I'm doubly excited! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

🤔🤔🤔 New paper on what happens to the stocks US Senators buy: “…stock purchases by senate members generate abnormal returns. We also find that abnormal returns are higher if the senator has direct jurisdiction over the firm through committee assignments”onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

If you are out of ideas, go for a walk. This paper found walking (whether outdoors or a treadmill) increased key types of creative thinking for over 80% of undergraduates. The reasons are not fully clear, but there seem to be direct effects on the brain. apa.org/pubs/journals/…

Zero draft is a critical part of the academic writing process. But a lot of folks ignore it and run into all sorts of problems including the writer's block. Here's what a zero draft is and why you should write one:

All aircraft on the installation have been evacuated/secured in preparation for #HurricaneIdalia . During the evacuation, the 50th ARS recorded St. Elmo’s fire, a weather phenomenon in which luminous plasma is created in an atmospheric electric field.

The dead horse I will continue to beat: instructors cannot detect AI writing reliably: 1) Detectors don’t work & accuse non-native speakers of cheating👇 2) You can’t ask AI to detect AI writing, it will hallucinate 3) If you “use your gut” you are going to used biased heuristics

There are 2 reasons why the FTC ban on non competes goes in the right direction. First, in labor markets where employment can be terminated at will, the ban rebalances bargaining power btw workers and employers, limiting risks of monopsony power extraction 1/n

Some takeaways: DON’T USE AI DETECTION SOFTWARE; “traditional” writing rubrics already spotlight AI’s generic, unsubstantiated writing; give students opportunities to talk about and revise their writing; teach them how to use AI strategically and effectively.

As I revise my manuscript, it's surprising that some still equate qualitative research with interpretivist work. Qualitative analysis isn't synonymous with interpretivist analysis. I've encountered many impactful qualitative studies grounded in positivist ontology/epistemology.

The opacity of academic prose arises from the epistemological imperative to operationalize disciplinary jargon, facilitating intra-specialized discourse while obfuscating heterogenous interpretive accessibility and perpetuating a recursive dialectic of erudition and exclusion.
