My statement on the situation unfolding tonight at Delaney Hall:

The treatment of Senator Alex Padilla and the way he was handled is disgraceful. It marks a deeply sad moment for our country. Yet, this administration keeps escalating more each and every day.

We need peace, not war. This escalation between Israel and Iran will likely result in more innocent people losing their lives. Right now, diplomacy is a moral imperative.

The facts are on my side: I was at Delaney Hall to do my job. Through their actions, this administration has made it clear that this is political intimidation, but I won’t roll over. I am looking forward to my day in court.

My heart breaks for the Minnesota community and the public servants who were targeted. The killing of Speaker Emerita Hortman and her husband Mark is an unthinkable tragedy. My heart is with their family. I am praying for the survival of Sen. Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.

Oversight is a core responsibility of Congress. We’re urging a congressional investigation into the reports of disturbing treatment of individuals detained at Delaney Hall. The safety, dignity, and rights of individuals in federal custody must be preserved at all times.

Slashing funding for the LGBTQ+ crisis hotline is a heartbreaking blow. NJ counselors warn these cuts will cost lives. When people have the strength to ask for help, we must stand with them, and against policies that put our community’s mental health—and lives—on the line.

Today marks 10 years since the shooting at Mother Emanuel AME in Charleston, where Black lives were taken by a white supremacist during a moment meant for prayer. We remember the loving souls lost and stand united against gun violence and racism in our communities.

Honored to gather with my colleagues to recognize and honor the memory of brave women in uniform from each branch of our military. Their courage paved the way for others and their legacy lives on with the salute of a grateful nation.
