Been thinking a lot about this as I write up my dissertation using political economy analysis; who am I writing for and how can PEA be used beyond the current centers of education power? #EducationPolitics

Was here in spirit and on zoom from my 4am time zone! Worth the early wake-up to hear Dr Joe Abah, OON’s insights on the importance of political will. Education reforms that fail to harness this critical component are just empty promises. The Politics of Education Network (POLED) bringing the conversations💥

My mom’s unwavering trust in Mexico’s ‘democratic’ institutions has always bewildered me; this election brought me no closer to understanding but I will always admire her love and passion for a country she left long ago but has never given up on.

Thank you to duncangreenlse.bsky.social and the REALCentre Cambridge for another successful The Politics of Education Network (POLED) seminar! Loved discussing what helps research be more influential, the importance of relationships, and how language frames issues— including the word “politics.” All practical and thought-provoking!

Learned this very important lesson today! And it likely applies beyond academic environments so a good lesson/reminder for any setting.

It was a pleasure to have SYLVIA SCHMELKES as the first female speaker in a The Politics of Education Network (POLED) seminar! She shared fascinating insights on power & politics in Mexico’s education system; where politicians, the SNTE union, & other top-down forces often inhibit quality learning reforms.

A key reflection from SYLVIA SCHMELKES today was that equity in education won’t be realized until those at the bottom of the learning pyramid see education as a right and not a service; (political) pressure for this right to quality education must be fostered from the bottom up.
