With the #GaryLineker row the focus has been drawn away from the government's illegal migration bill and even, ironically, their rhetoric around it. To return to the original story, Suella Braverman's numbers on asylum seekers don't add up. Here's why: 🧵 1/21

I cannot begin to express to you what a fundamental and all-consuming incompetent mess the Home Office is. Nothing works. No system functions. Decisions might as well be made by llamas. Records are trash. Bureaucracy out of control. And as always, the vulnerable pay the price.

*You cannot get a visa to claim asylum* confirms Jenrick. Bookmark this. Post it to every idiot asking why people don’t just jump on Ryan Air. Including Gullis et al. Remind gov everytime they talk of people ā€˜breaking in’ or call them ā€˜illegal’. There is no legal pathway.

Psst. Right now the UK Government are trying to extinguish the right to asylum and remove the rights of some of the most vulnerable people in society. So, here’s a few things they don't want you to be reminded of…

🚨EXCL: Asylum seekers staying at Home Office hotels in and around Liverpool are alleged to have been harassed, humiliated and subjected to verbal and emotional abuse from senior hotel staff in what sources describe as a culture of "institutional abuse". theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/m…

BREAKING: This government's cruel plan to send people seeking asylum to Rwanda is UNLAWFUL. This is a HUGE win. The UK wants hope not hostility. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/j…

Half of aged checked asylum seekers are wrongly ruled adults. Such an important piece covering diabolical & dangerous treatment of children that we see every day in asylum support. This is no surprise but utterly abhorrent. The worst, most brutal, racism against children.

It is not illegal to seek asylum. Over 90% of people crossing by small boat claimed asylum. It is NOT illegal to seek asylum. Stop repeating the language of extremism.

Finally something to cheer. Government forced to back down from removing standards from ā€˜accommodation’ provided to people in the asylum system. This would’ve enabled privateers to make even more money & worsen the already chronic conditions. theguardian.com/society/2024/f…

YOU cost the tax payer millions every day. You could let people work, process claims, allow them to live in our communities & learn about life in the UK, give visa access. But you CHOOSE small boats, barracks, barges, Rwanda, hotels, poverty & you chose not to process claims.
