What an absolute pleasure it has been to work with this lovely bunch of people! So much sunshine (except today), #cilia and science... Thanks to Station Biologique de Roscoff for hosting us! #WomenInSTEM @JekelyLab

We often think of #corals as being rather sedentary, but did you know they have motile larvae? What makes them swim: #cilia of course! 🪸 Our new preprint biorxiv.org/content/10.110… explores the ciliary flows induced by single larvae of the broadcast spawning coral Acropora... 1/

apparently the wobbly bridge disaster might not have been due to resonant frequencies, & the every one of my undergraduate 'intro to oscillations' lectures was a lie

Happy birthday to the website that got me through my entire physics degree (and that I still turn to occasionally even now!)

You went sampling, found a new critter, and want to analyse its behaviour..? We wrote a primer on querying motility patterns at the microscale - led by the dynamic duo Karen Grace Bondoc-Naumovitz and Hannah Laeverenz-Schlogelhofer! Hope others found it a useful resource (feedback welcome)! arxiv.org/abs/2303.00068

Well done Rebecca Poon for giving the best talk yesterday is what was a pretty talented field! I think you have successfully alerted a new generation of students (plus one Nobel laureate) to the beauty of motile #cilia 😅

If you are curious about how #cilia are coordinated in different species and the (very diverse!) physical and biological mechanisms of this coordination, check out the review that Rebecca Poon and I wrote on this recently sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

My first first-author paper from my PhD is out! Check it out here: doi.org/10.1103/PhysRe… to find out how coral larvae use cilia to swim

New preprint from Rebecca Poon's PhD! Did you know that the ciliary band metachronal wave in #Platynereis is a in fact a series of tiny waves within each multiciliated cell! What happens if you ablate some cilia?? 🌊😱 Cool #cilia collab w Gaspar! doi.org/10.1101/2025.0…
