A2: Strategies are not only the skills but also the knowledge the students gains in knowing when to use the specific skills. Strategies are the tools we give strivers to be able to handle text independently. #kellerliteracy

A3: Read-alouds and more specifically think-alouds are the way we can show strivers what work is going on during reading. It is a chance for them to hear how readers deal with difficult portions of text successfully. #kellerliteracy

A4: Background knowledge plays a huge role in helping students understand what they are reading. If they have no prior knowledge, it will be harder for them to understand. Helping them build schema gives them something to connect to while reading. #kellerliteracy

A1: Independent reading allows student to practice the skills they are learning while enjoying reading at the same time. #kellerliteracy

A2: If students are not involved in next generational RA, SR, and GR, they may not have the skills to be able to handle reading independently and as confidently. #kellerliteracy

A4: My goal for Independent reading this year is to build a classroom community of readers. Have students share what they are reading in small and large groups to help build a community #kellerliteracy

A1: I give all students running records. I also take my striving readers and analyze their records to gather more information to help guide instruction. I also use reading inventories to guide me in finding materials that interest them. #kellerliteracy

A3: We need to be detectives and learn all we can about our students as readers. We can learn about them in many ways including running records, observations, and conferring. All of these can help guide us in learning all we can about our students. #kellerliteracy

A4: Giving students and parent insight into the students strengths and needs in the area of reading can help build confidence about what they do well and encourage them to set goals and work on things that they struggle with. #kellerliteracy

A6: Conferring allows you to see what a student understands and thinks about what they are reading. This along with miscue analysis can help you know what a student uses to understand what they are reading. #kellerliteracy
