But that's not the whole story. You see, the Warren Court that made these rulings ALSO gave us Brown (1954) & Loving (1967). Christians--esp in the South--saw these rulings as interconnected. In short, "God" was removed from the school the moment schools were being desegregated.

So the idea of making schools "Christian" is really about keeping them White and free from the boogeyman of communism. Georgia Congressman put it most succinctly:"They put the Negroes in the school; now they put God out of the schools."
