A new Judicial Merit Selection Commission meets for the first time today. The current makeup, implemented as a bill last July, didn’t go into effect until this July, and will — rather than exclusively including legislators — will have private citizens on the panel.

The membership will include... -4 members appointed by the Speaker, incl. three House members and one member from the SC Bar w/ ten years' experience. -4 members appointed by the Senate, half of whom are Senators. -4 members appointed by the Governor, all of whom are lawyers.
