Black students voices Queen's Belfast ACS on their lived experiences at university. Please read their letter. It is painful and powerful! ๐ค Amplify their voices by showing them your support with a RT! Protect them by uplifting them! #BLMBELFAST2020 #blmbelfast โ๐พโ๐พโ๐พโ๐พโ๐พ
SO proud of Queen's Belfast ACS for calling out the rampant racism in Queen's University Belfast ๐ โ๐พ Queenโs has avoided actively tackling conversations on race for too long despite so many efforts that have been made, and to follow that with performative solidarity is UNACCEPTABLE ๐ฅ๐ ๐พโโ๏ธ
Our Black students are in pain ๐ You cannot read this letter and not feel the pain, or see the the racist climate within Queen's University Belfast ๐ but also in a wider societal context in NI. I strongly urge our Chancellor Hillary Clinton & Professor Sir Ian Greer to listen to our students & reflect.โ๐พ
Incredibly powerful open letter from the Afro-Caribbean Society (Queen's Belfast ACS) calling out Queen's University's role in perpetuating structures of racial oppression within the academy, performative solidarity, and the urgent need to decolonise the institution. Solidarity.
There is an urgent need for Queen's University Belfast ๐ Professor Sir Ian Greer to meet the demands of our Black students with strong, radical & active commitments to change as opposed to empty words. Proud to stand with Queen's Belfast ACS in this fight. We MUST dismantle the power structures that oppress us โ๐พ
Also a quick TW/CW for vile racism in the comments of the Belfast Live tweet about the article. If anything to me, those comments just proof the huge issue we have in NI on talking about racism- but especially on how quick people are to silence young Black voices.
