An imposing tower on the Wylfa - Pentir 400kV double circuit from the access road to Wylfa Local Nature Reserve this afternoon pylonofthemonth
pylonofthemonth Looks wrong, like someone stretched it in Photoshop, but chanced upon some very tall beasts crossing the River Severn in Gloucestershire.
Devizes pylon buried cables project area. (The pictures don't quite capture the crackle and hum of the overhead lines). I'm intrigued by the overhead work and the pair of 'demi-pylons' either side of the one in the middle? pylonofthemonth Pylon Appreciation nationalgrid.com/electricity-trβ¦
I've driven past this pylon for years but finally stopped and took the classic straight-up-from-underneath pic pylonofthemonth
Had my first site visit for a few months today at Agecroft and got distracted by this stonking 132kV double circuit terminal tower with cable sealing ends right outside the compound I was visiting. Lovely jubley! pylonofthemonth
Some formidable overhead equipment in downtown Kyoto. Picture tsken this morning for pylonofthemonth
pylonofthemonth L9 towers, a total of 15 exist in England, 6 Dβs near Bath, 3 Dβs and 2 D30βs at Withington, 2 D30βs near Filton and 2 Dβs at Sunderland. The rest of them are in Scotland.
pylonofthemonth V-shaped strings are not uncommon over here in the Dutch grid (and not only on Danubes) so you could maybe ask HoogspanningsNet about that aspect. Perhaps it has to do with tower loading, and/or to stay within the (~35Β°) protection angle of the (relatively low) overhead earth wire.
pylonofthemonth They share their evil look with the Danish Eagle towers when equipped with V-suspension. Imagine yourself as kindergartner, gazing out of your bedroom window in a hazy late summer evening, black silhouettes of these towers standing tall in plain silence. Nightmares guaranteed.
Paul Webster pylonofthemonth Nope, yours is one of the two fork designs in the Energinet EHV transmission grid (and hell what a beauty it is). Eagle towers were designed by Bystrup and when equipped with V-suspension they look like this (picture by O. Nielsen). There is over 200 km of them.
It was brilliantly clear this afternoon at Cutacre CP, Bolton. You could see the Clwydian Range, the Runcorn - Widnes bridges, Fiddlers Ferry, the Peak District and Jodrell Bank. Oh, and the Kearsley - Atherton/Westhoughton 132kV double circuit tower line pylonofthemonth
Lovely 132kV tower shot taken by my daughter for GCSE Photography on the subject of "symmetry". I reported insulator damage on this one to Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks earlier this year - all fixed up now π₯° James Watson CEng, FIET pylonofthemonth
