Clumsy, heavy-handed fare enforcement isn't a mistake, it's the point. Inconveniencing all riders to nab fare beaters reinforces the falsehood that other riders—and not our elected leaders—are to blame for poor, underfunded bus service.

The media apparently struggles to understand the practical and moral distinction between killing someone and being killed. This was vehicular murder by a drunk driver. The men he killed happened to be on bikes. There was nothing accidental about it.
