UGA Office of Sustainability has many sustainability opportunities for all students to be involved. I cannot wait to cover more interesting opportunities this semester through my reporting 1 beat.

The Oconee County Greenway Commission has a scheduled meeting on Feb. 20, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park, Athens, Georgia, during which they will discuss possible new funding opportunities. It is open to the public and anyone is welcome to attend.

Dr.Ross Hinkle started The Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission meeting at 3:03 p.m. at the Memorial Park conference room in Athens, Georgia.

The Carr’s Creek section of the Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission will have a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 29, 2024 at 10 a.m.

The treasurer position for the Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission is still vacant and the commission is actively taking volunteers to fill the position.

Dr.Ross Hinkle spoke on the Oconee River Greenway and said that “a program like this takes volunteers and time.”

The Walt Cook award extends beyond the Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission. Dr. Ross Hinkle explains that the award will be presented to Dr. Karen Porter, an ecology professor at the University of Georgia.

Susie Haggard, another member of the commission, spoke on the main goal of The Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission which is to “protect the greenway itself and take care of the river and its tributaries.”

The Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission discussed the greenway vision plans and the “1000’s of hours” they have spent on it.

The main section of the Oconee Rivers Greenway was established in 1992.
