I wear two hats: I research and lecture in Agriculture and Environment (Bangor University) plus a hands-on farmer. Ymchwil, darlithio, a ffarmio!

In the Big Smoke today. Walking in Westminster, I couldn't help but think how decisions made here and in the Treasury about the SFI in England will hurt farmers and the environment. To be honest, I am not surprised by it, only perhaps by how sudden it was. Bumpy times ahead 😔

Myfyrwyr bl. 1af yn samplu "o'r môr i'r mynydd" yn Henfaes a thair afon leol. 1st-year students measuring changes in soil properties and biodiversity from "summit to sea" at Henfaes. Also comparing river water chemistry across three sites. Great to have these on our doorstep

Mae nhw nôl! A dyma gymylau o biwiad yr un diwrnod - natur yn gofalu am ei hun eto. So glad to see the swallows back, coinciding with swarms of midges today. I'd love to be able to phone Dad tonight to say they were back. It was something he dearly looked forward to every year 🥹

Oes teimlad gwell mewn ffarmio? Surely one of the annual highlights in livestock farming? Sheds and tractor/scraper cleaned, cattle out 😎

Mae'r term Cymraeg 'gwyddau bach' yn addas iawn ar gyfer blodau'r goeden helyg. In Welsh, we call willow catkins "goslings" - a reflection of their fluffy yellow form

Giving evidence this am to the Senedd's Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee on 'Soil Health in Agriculture', with Will Stiles & UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. Gwaith cynnes! Busy day with a large team Environment@Bangor ADAS at Henfaes! Applying slurry +/- separation ond grass regrowth, monitoring gaseous losses, N & P dynamics, and ultimately learning how to help max out the value of this brilliant resource on livestock farms 🐄🐮

Llosgi yn o ddifrifol rŵan. The saying is that a heap of silage is better than money in the bank. We have much left over from last year - they may well be needed 😬😬

Yr hydref wedi cyrraedd yn Henfaes. Autumn has arrived at Bangor University's farm, Henfaes: cows & calves down from the tops (they've done well); Welsh Mountain lamb on brassicas in the agroforestry plots - glad of the shelter from Storm Amy 🍃🌬️🌧️
