Now playing … So very sad to hear of the passing of Brian Wilson, one of most influential musicians of my lifetime. The word ‘genius’ is banded about far more often than it should in the world of music. Brian was one of the few that deserved the accolade. Rest easy music man.

Now playing… The recently released fourth album from Atlanta based neo-prog band Great Wide Nothing. Musically more than competent with some excellent synth-driven passages. My one criticism (one I’ve constantly made of Pendragon) is the need to recruit a specialist vocalist.

Tonight’s listening … A pastiche of all things ’70s prog they may have been, but a bloody good one at that.

Morning all … Starting the day with Van’s 47th album, released today. From what I’ve heard, it’s his best for quite a while.

This afternoon’s gym buddy … As good as concept album as has ever been recorded. Just wish it had been a triple.

What a difference between the way former bandmates of Brian Wilson have reacted to his passing. Whilst Al Jardine has been generous in his praise for his lifelong friend, always downplaying his own role, Mike Love never misses an opportunity to elevate himself to genius level.

Tonight’s listening … Four phenomenal consecutive albums, IMHO all 5 ⭐️ Impossible to rank them as all essential listening.

Spent the afternoon painting the outside of the house listening to a recording of Alan ‘Fluff’ Freeman’s Saturday Rock Show. Was Fluff’s the best radio show ever? Not ‘arf! Looking forward to a few more afternoon’s painting later this week.
