Our very own Dr. Adam Davis, Dept. Head, kicking off the 2024 Nitrogen Use Efficiency Workshop this morning. Thanks to all sponsors who made this event possible and everybody that showed up! College of ACES Crop Sciences Illinois Extension

#ArticleAlert 🔖 Check out our latest #OpenAcces pub in Crop, Forage & Turfgrass Management. We looked into how #Nitrogen fertilizer application at different timing impacts soybean yield across IL College of ACES Crop Sciences Illinois Extension @ILSoyAdvisor Illinois NREC doi.org/10.1002/cft2.2…

Optimizing corn and soybean seeding rates in IL - what research is telling us Illinois Extension Crop Sciences farmdoc.illinois.edu/field-crop-pro…

It only took about a month! Our March 13 planted crops finally emerged earlier this week. Corn emergence looked good, but Soybean plants looked spotty in all plots; will estimate emergence% later next week. Illinois Extension Crop Sciences

Field update: plots are looking good in our planting date trial at Monmouth. First planting date when the soil was fit (not “mudding in”). Fourth and last planting date will be early June. 🌽 dates 4/15 - V6 5/6 - V3 5/17 - V1 Illinois Extension Crop Sciences

Mid-May planted soybeans at V3 stage near St Peter, IL. Great stand. Nodules are starting to grow rapidly and begin fixing N around this time. Illinois Extension Field Advisor

Cooler-than-normal weather has delayed early-season crop growth in parts of the state. Soybeans planted April 22 in Warren Co began flowering with 4 trifoliates this week, while April 17 planting in Piatt Co hit flowering with 7 trifoliates Illinois Extension 📸: Federico Rolle

Planted in early May, this corn in Christian County is looking great! It's at V9-10 today, with the tassel developing quickly, but not yet visible. New leaves should appear every 2-3 days Illinois Extension

🌽 Mid-May planted #corn is around V12 at South Farm near Urbana. At this stage, kernel row number is set and the tassel is developing rapidly. Another 2-3 weeks for pollination Illinois Extension

Strip-till matched conventional yields in IL soybean trials—see how row spacing and starter N+S helped improve performance in conservation systems. This Illinois Soybean Association checkoff-funded study was led by Giovani Preza Fontes at UIUC and along with SIU. fieldadvisor.org/can-conservati…

With most soybean fields entering reproductive stages, the perennial question returns: Can N fertilizer boost yield? 🌱 A new post reviews multi-year field trials across Illinois and what we found. Full results & takeaways 👉 farmdoc.illinois.edu/field-crop-pro… Illinois Extension College of ACES
