You pay good money to your engineers. Ask them to solve customer or business problems using technology. Don't just ask them to produce code for you. There's a huge difference. #ProductEngineering

Stop overloading your roadmaps and treating everything like a high priority. Priority is singular. Singular priority creates focus. Having more than one priority means that you no longer have a priority.

Can you fire your sister? Not really. Then stop running your teams like family. Treat your teams like professional sports teams.

Here are a few principles I recommend to every engineering team to live by: 1. People come first 2. Focus on customer value 3. Deploy daily 4. Innovate through technology 5. Prototype before coding 6. Focus on REAL tech debt 7. PM + Designer + Enginee 7.PM

Something counterintuitive about hiring software engineers: ➡️ When hiring, FIRST look for product mindset, creativity, enthusiasm ➡️ Only then check their tech skills. They’re not as important. People can learn how to code, but changing their mindset takes a lot of work.

A product team is like a three-piece band. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 sets the beat 🥁, 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿 adds the melody 🎹, and 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 rock the technical aspects. 🎸 Together, they fill stadiums with fans. newsletter.product-blocks.com/p/product-trio

The best way to frustrate your #product teams is to give them list of features to build without any context. The best way to empower and inspire them is to give them a clear vision, a well-defined problem space, and a access to customers.

If >40% of your engineer’s time is spent on meetings, you're doing something wrong. 📅 Analyze the calendars of your engineers. ❌ Watch out for some bad agile adoptions.

If you're not following Polish politics, here's what happened: - After the election in November, there was a change of power in Poland - After the election, whoever wins typically takes over the public media - The previous party, with "their" journalists, barricaded themselves

Be careful: Senior Engineers are quite often terrible Team Leads. Senior Engineer is an Individual Contributor path. Team Lead is a manager path. Different paths require different skills.

People in companies put too much attention on titles and hierarchy. Your CEO is just a human. Like you. They can be wrong. Your ideas can be better than theirs.

70% of the business leaders don't know how to build products. Even junior specialists have an idea of which features to add to your product. That's not enough.

If you've not reached product market fit, spend 0% of your engineers' time on tech debt. Once you reach PMF, spend 10-30% on it.
