Have the warnings about NAPLAN ‘narrowing the curriculum’ and ‘teaching to the test’ come to pass where higher order skills tested by PISA have indeed been sidelined? Maybe instead of a ‘back to basics’ response it should be a ‘beyond the basics’ response. smh.com.au/national/back-…

‘We set the bar too low for ourselves if the main policy response to PISA is "back to basics". Australia needs to be more aspirational than to simply measure our system on how well our children read and write.’ Richard Holden Hon Adrian Piccoli via The Sydney Morning Herald smh.com.au/national/back-…

Jane Mueller Hon Adrian Piccoli Richard Holden The Sydney Morning Herald What a great explanation. Even in year 4 my kids can do the basics in mathematics but on assessment tasks that require application through problem solving it becomes a challenge.

I quite like Hon Adrian Piccoli and Richard Holden's idea of significantly changing NAPLAN. It is a practical step to take towards dismantling the NAPLAN grip on our schools. It's certainly is doable, probably acceptable to data obsessed govts, and might even work. smh.com.au/national/back-…

After 3 great years I am leaving the Gonski Institute for Education at the end of 2020. Thanks to VC Ian Jacobs and Chanc David Gonski for allowing me the privilege to work at UNSW with Prof Pasi Sahlberg and the @gonskiInstitute team.

Check out the website at gonskidatalab.com.au and have a play around with the variables. It’s a work in progress so we are interested in suggestions and ideas. ⁦Richard Holden⁩ ⁦Pasi Sahlberg⁩ smh.com.au/national/nsw/m…

Dear 300+ Music teachers who said no to a position at Hay War Memorial HS Today I visited the classroom you turned down I've worked in schools with 5+ the students that not as well resourced to number or quality of instruments Just wanted you to know what your missing in Rural Ed

Hon Adrian Piccoli (@piccolimp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Our UNSW research shows contextualising test qns to make them relevant to rural & Indigenous students could close rural/metro reading gap by 33% & Indigenous/non Indigenous gap by 50%. Idea is not new but using a Randomised Control Trial to prove it, is. smh.com.au/national/nsw/w…
