Fabulous new paper! 👏🏽👏🏽 I hear many rush to interpret it broadly in terms of "industrial policy". Ok. I'd rather choose to emphasize what it more strictly shows: the crucial importance of export promotion in export development, and of doing it right. No more, no less.

Thrilled to share my JMP #EconTwitter! Cities in poor LMICs often make news for toxic air, but limited budgets constrain action. Can reducing pollution increase aggregate incomes and help ease budget constraints? Can targeting specific sources produce larger income gains? 👇1/

Today, UK government announced major changes to legal immigration: raising minimum skilled worker salary and income requirement for spouse visa to over £38K! Wondering about effects of such policies?! Check out my JMP!

Had a great time presenting my JMP at #FirmsTradeDev. I really enjoyed getting to see such a broad set of papers on firms and trade in economic development. A big thank you to the organizers for putting together such a stimulating set of presentations!

An oft-ignored factor behind Korea's growth miracle: "The Korean total of $6 billion in US economic grants and loans, 1946-1978, compares to $6.89 billion for all of Africa, and $14.89 billion for all of Latin America." — Jung En Woo's Race to the Swift

We still have a relatively poor understanding of the relationship between research and policy. Program evaluation in particular is often motivated by a desire to make policy better. But how effective is program evaluation itself? Michelle Rao's JMP tackles this question.

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) against women worldwide is a major public health and inequality concern. It's not clear what causes IPV, or how to reduce it. Gaby Deschamps' JMP notes that IPV is positively correlated with motherhood, and asks if we can understand why.
