Jane Mathison Haining, a Church of Scotland missionary worker who was killed in Auschwitz #OTD 17 July 1944. Her story deserves to be better known, I think.

Pictures received from my Commonwealth War Graves colleague who is a talented photographer and who has achieved a fantastic result in Kinloss Abbey where we have a maintained plot . Roses are best in Scotland at this Cemetery.

Our WFA Branch has been meeting at the Scots Guards Club in Edinburgh since 2016. The Club's long planned library project is now taking real shape. If you have military books or memorabilia gathering dust somewhere, the Club is interested in receiving donations to its collection.

With VJ Day approaching there is renewed focus on the Burma Campaign. My own The Forgotten War Podcast: Burma Campaign WW2 the WW2 Pod: We Have Ways of Making You Talk miniseries on Burma 45 & also a BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of George MacDonald Fraser's Quartered Safe Out Here. I thought I would take a look at that

If anyone is wondering whether retirement is for them here is a 🧵 to mark my one year of retirement. My job as Head of School and full time Y5/6 classes was mental but I loved it and loved my school. Took the decision to go at 59 and since then there have been pros and cons…

I’m very grateful to Premier Inn for a sympathetic hearing when I enquired re a booking I made over a year ago and moved due to surgery. I’m unlikely to use it due to uncertainty re treatment dates. I got a full refund, despite the terms of the original booking.
