Someone--definitely not Hallmark--has decreed today to be Thank You Public Health Day. Working in it, I find public health to be a very broad, and often misunderstood field. Hopefully it gets some well-deserved good press today. #TYPHD

I’ve been working with ticks and tick-borne diseases since 1992. They’re cool. And if you find one trapped in amber, it might have dinosaur blood in it. theverge.com/2017/12/12/167…

Influenza is now widespread in NY, and that means masking regulations are in effect for unvaccinated healthcare workers.

All focusing on banned words in the CDC news out last night. Just as troubling is the suggested phrase “CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes.” It’s unclear if this is just words or new policy. Bad news if the latter.

We've been part of a group of states that have been examining Lyme disease surveillance for the past few years. Today, a whole issue of papers on that work got published: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/zp…

Overheard from my desk this morning: "Do you know how many stools you had in the past 24 hours? Were they watery?" Love public health.

CRISPR continues to prove incredibly amazing and useful. Hopefully techniques like the ones described here will lead to faster detection of infections, which would be a boon for public health. theverge.com/2018/2/15/1701…

Helping teach a bunch of folks from different states in a 3-day “vector biology boot camp.” Someone hinted that pic looks like we’re in a cult. We’re not. Just learning how to do mosquito and tick surveillance.
