Exceptional day looking at some of our barn owl boxes. 3 barn owls & 1 tawny owl were ringed, 5 other BO's seen. 9 BO eggs & 5 chicks, plus 3 tawny owl eggs! Sterling work from Chris P. & Jack W. our conservation officer. Conservation at its best. [email protected] #owls
One of our Althorp 'Barnies' brooding her almost bald chicks yesterday. One egg can still be seen unhatched. There's a nice mouse in the "larder" under her tail feathers. [email protected] Photo. Chris Payne
Chris P's link will show the great conservation work being undertaken working in conjunction with other bodies. Chris can give advice and supply barn owl boxes and much more. He can you help you do something very special for barn owls. [email protected] Chris Payne
4G camera footage of our two barn owls with 3 chicks and 2 eggs Althorp Both parents were happy nesting on a raised floor in this old barn. Please note that visiting ANY Barn owl site can only be done under a schedule 1 licence. [email protected] Chris Payne
We're only half way through ringing the barn owl chicks at Althorp and already we are well into double figures! It's looking good.🤞 All work is done under a schedule 1 licence. Chris Payne has been pivitol in Althorp's success with these incredible birds. [email protected]
Barn owls "George and Mildred" have been unsuccessful with their first clutch this season, but its looking as if a second attempt is underway. As long as rodents such as this rat doesn't keep interrupting! So far our BO's are doing very well this year.🤞 [email protected]
One of our barn owl youngsters has fledged this evening. It's one of the three birds born up a corner on an old barns first storey floor. Its a great success, many more to go, fingers crossed. 🤞 [email protected] Chris Payne #schedule1 #Spencerestates #barnowls
Some of our later hatching barn owl chicks got their leg rings today across the estate. We've still more to do in what's been an exceptional year for our Barnies. Great work from Chris P & Jack W. All done under a schedule 1 licence. [email protected] #BTO #Spencerestates
No sooner had the barn owl chicks fledged at this site, and up pops this little chap! Little owls do prefer the old trees at Althorp for roosting and nesting, but an old barn is always of interest. He certainly had a good "gander". [email protected] Chris Payne #nature
Four more beautiful barn owl chicks ringed today Althorp All four owlets were females in this brood. Big thanks as always to Chris Payne & Jack W, all done under a schedule 1 licence. [email protected] #barnowls #Spencerestates
Seven new barn owl boxes were erected in Norfolk yesterday. Two barnies were caught and ringed too. Our Norfolk estate is giving Althorp a run for its money with barnies! All work done under a Schedule 1 licence. Jack W, Ian F. Chris Payne [email protected] #owls
