If true, what the Labour front bench is doing is unforgivable. The #CANBill is essential & has backing of huge number of experts, scientists, unions & others. If backbench Labour MPs ever consider rebelling against leadership on anything, let it be this theguardian.com/environment/20…
Pet owners accidentally poisoning garden birds! Our latest research finds pet flea treatments (fipronil and imidacloprid) in 100% of blue tit and great tit nests, with nestling mortality higher in the more contaminated nest. SongBird Survival University of Sussex Cannelle Tassin de Montaigu
We were disheartened to hear Rachel Reeves speech on planning reform where she singled out newts as the cause for planning delays. Housing & nature do not have to be pitched against each other! Nature can, & should be, part of the solution. More: ow.ly/pLh050UUUUB
.United Utilities Lancs Rural Police Depressing visit to Anglezarke today. Off road vehicles are now churning up the vegetation around the viewpoint above the reservoir. 2 burnt out cars over the weekend too, and as usual there were ridiculous amounts of litter.
Slim pickings for today's #WeBS count at the Anglezarke and Rivington reservoir complex. A flock of 35 teal and a pair of Oystercatcher were the only highlights. ChorleyNats Wetland Bird Survey
Sad to see the scrambler bike damage to the woodlands in Lead Mines Clough is getting worse. United Utilities Lancs Rural Police Lancashire Wildlife Trust
First outing of the year for the Belmont toad patrol. 26 rescued and 8 killed tonight. All males, patiently waiting for the females to arrive. Froglife ChorleyNats Leonard Poxon
.Lancs Rural Police United Utilities Lancashire Wildlife Trust Apologies for the poor quality video, but should this helicopter have been flying so low over Anglezarke moor today? It appeared to land briefly. Hugely disturbing for the wildlife, especially so close to the breeding season.
Glorious weather for this mornings #WeBS count of the Anglezarke and Rivington reservoirs. A total of 11 Great crested Grebes was a good number for this area. Wetland Bird Survey ChorleyNats

“The government is therefore pleased to confirm that we will be moving ahead with a new GCSE in natural history.” This is excellent news & Ministers are to be warmly congratulated. Well done Mary Colwell on relentlessly making the case for this. questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questi…
Toad patrols do make a difference. When the Belmont toad patrol first started 8 years ago, we'd only get 50 or so toads during a spring migration. Last year we had 600, 241 saved on Saturday night, with sadly over 100 killed by the boy racers Froglife Leonard Poxon Bolton & Bury Swifts
.United Utilities Dismayed to hear about tree felling work being carried out at the north end of Anglezarke reservoir today. Why on earth is this happening during peak bird nesting season, when nests with eggs or young will almost certainly have been destroyed?
Worrying to see invasive rhododendron plants starting to appear on Anglezarke Moor. Possibly seeded from the rhododendrons that are swamping the native vegetation on nearby Stronstrey Bank. United Utilities Lancashire Wildlife Trust Natural England
