My favorite chart from the AI Overview study is seeing how it's showing for more longer searches. I think people are starting to use longer searches because of this. Google even dropped the 32 word count limit. ahrefs.com/blog/insights-…

There’s a cost to bots crawling your websites, and there’s a social contract between search engines and website owners that will extend to Gen AI. They need to add value or they will eventually be blocked much more. ahrefs.com/blog/ai-bot-bl…

Ahrefs has launched a lot of cool tools over the last few years, but this is one of my favorites. We have created an MCP integration with Chatbots. This is what SEO people have been wanting for years.

The number of AI bots roughly doubled in 2024. There were over 20 of them active on the web towards the end of the year. Millions of sites block them, but the block rate varies a lot by category. Read more: ahrefs.com/blog/ai-bot-bl…

Some are asking me my thoughts on all of this and for SEO - so I made a very youtube’y video on the topic youtu.be/gMFBUnLyVBM apologies in advance to Greg Finn and Mordy Oberstein 🎗️🇮🇱

Google's John 🧀 ... 🧀 has confirmed that AI Mode reporting will indeed come to Search Console - exactly what that means is not clear but the data will be in Search Console's performance reports soon - more details at seroundtable.com/google-ai-mode…

Many of these sites aren’t being tracked properly in analytics. It’s their fault, not yours. But it does impact your analytics and reporting, as well as their future. ahrefs.com/blog/generativ…

Last week it was AI mode not sending a referrer, so you can't track it in analytics. Google says it's a bug. I guess we'll see if they fix it. I looked at other generative engines to see who else isn't sending the data to your analytics. It's not great. ahrefs.com/blog/generativ…

Updates: Google has said they’re tracking the noreferrer issue as a bug, so hopefully they remove it. For GSC, documentation was updated. “Note: AI Mode reporting isn’t live in Search Console yet, but we expect this soon as part of the AI Mode rollout.” ahrefs.com/blog/google-ai…

Let me know your thoughts. This is not me advocating for blocking Google. But SEO teams will likely be having these conversations soon.

Just to confirm the noreferrer bug is fixed in AI Mode, I tested it in GA4 + Ahrefs Web Analytics. It records the same as normal Google search traffic.

I was testing stuff in Google AI Mode and couldn't get my site to show. Turns out it's from a nosnippet I added, which at the time only made it so a meta description didn't show. Looks like it's documented. Probably important for publishers & others. developers.google.com/search/docs/cr…
