FYI, obeying the law does not make you spiritual, hearing the gospel makes you spiritual (1 Corinthians 2).

The pulpit is not a platform for opinions, motivation, or self-help. It is the place where God raises the dead by the foolishness of the preached gospel (1 Cor. 1:21).

The cross didn’t make salvation possible. It made salvation actual. “It is finished” wasn’t a suggestion. It was a declaration.

Mothers, if you didn’t hear the gospel today: all your sins are forgiven through the broken body and shed blood of Jesus

Law commands. Gospel promises. Law demands. Gospel declares. Law says, “You must.” Gospel says, “Christ has.” One crushes. The other raises the dead. Know the difference. Preach accordingly.

Faith is not something we push out of ourselves through willpower. It’s pulled out of us by the preaching of the gospel.

So say it only half-ironically, the Christian message, that of the Incarnation is so mind-boggling insane a claim that it pretty much has to be true.

Why do we try to keep short accounts of our sins with God, when He doesn’t take them into account? “Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account.” (Rom. 4:8)

Good News: Jesus didn’t die for the future version of you that’s more holy and more moral than you are right now. No, He simply died for YOU. While you were dead in sin He died for you. #thereisnostriving

Good News: Christianity is not you holding on to Jesus, it’s Him holding on to you. Though you may doubt, despair, and rebel, He’ll never let you go.

He came to take away sins. Not manage them. Not remind you of them. But remove them. Once for all.

GOOD NEWS: At salvation you were not just cleansed from sin and given a new slate to try again. You were given the perfect obedience of Christ, something you can rest in all your days (2 Cor 5:21).

Jesus didn’t institute the church so you could serve her—but so she could serve you. With the Word. With the Supper. With forgiveness. With rest. You don’t go to church to perform. You go to receive.

Good news. God is pleased to pour out his grace on his kids. “according to the good pleasure of his will” “glorious grace that he lavished on us” “according to the riches of his grace that he richly poured out on us” “according to his good pleasure”
