Re the whole 'omg there's more ETFs than stocks' thing, while more choice can be tough on consumers it's a normal part of capitalism, demand induces supply, and so it's no big deal IMO. I addressed it in my book The Bogle Effect in the "Some Worry" chapter FWIW:
