Chicago has signed Frank Nazar to a seven-year contract worth $6.59 million AAV ($46.13M total).

The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge was demolished this week due to damage sustained from Hurricane Helene. The bridge was built as part of US Highway 64 in 1925 and decommissioned in 2011. In 2013, 12 gardens were built, and it became the Flowering Bridge. 🧵

NHL teams are usually hesitant to give out long-term deals unless they have more information on a player than 56 NHL games, but the Hawks take the risk with Nazar and clearly like his outlook (they should). #Blackhawks

By the end of the deal, the contract will look closer to a higher-end third-line C contract than today. You can move a deal like that if it doesn't work out. And the boom potential makes it worth it.

Nazar is probably at least a 3C today, and at 21 with his game still developing and a boatload of skill, this is a risk that I like for the Hawks. Nazar likely exceeds the value of this deal relatively quickly.

It's odd that a player who is 21 and has 56 NHL games played would be interested in signing a long-term deal unless he really values that security. In an age where players are becoming increasingly interested in maximizing their earnings, this is an interesting change of pace.

The Hawks also must believe that Nazar won't get comfortable with this deal, knowing that he has generational money, almost no matter how he plays. You don't take the risk unless you have a good understanding of Nazar as a person.
