This week I voted with my colleagues on the Labor and Industry Committee to approve bills I co-sponsored that would protect our hotel workers from violence and invest more in American manufacturing jobs, many of which are union jobs.

This legislation, which creates the Buy America, Buy Union Grant Program, passed out of committee last week!

On this day in 1938, the Fair Labor Standards Act was signed into law, establishing the first federal minimum wage, a 40-hour workweek, overtime pay, and child labor protections. These wins happened because workers organized and demanded better.

Today in 1938, President Roosevelt signed the federal minimum wage into law – a historic decision that guaranteed workers $25 cents an hour and what would now be worth $5.70.    By 1945, minimum wage would increase to 40 cents an hour or $9.12 today.    In 2025, PA’s minimum wage

Today the #PAHouse passed a bill that would require hotel employers to provide a panic button to permit hotel workers to receive immediate on-scene assistance from staff or security personnel.

Yesterday, we were proud to welcome AFL-CIO ✊'s It’s Better in a Union bus tour as it rolled into Pittsburgh to rally with local unions. The event was part of a nation-wide call to protect workers’ rights, safe workplaces, retirement security and more.

The minimum wage was established to protect workers and create a standard of living to raise people out of poverty.    16 years at $7.25, the minimum wage is far below what’s necessary for workers to live, raise a family, and live a full life.     Let’s raise the wage.
