Getting obsessed with how to make a very realistic iris procedurally. Using blender's curve/hair system and geometry nodes to simulate the iris. The principled hair shader to render this out. next step is to render this to a texture. #b3d

Result of the iris research i've been toying with. Offline rendering is pretty fun, you don't have to worry about real time approximations or hacks. Here the iris is made out of tens of thousands of individual strands. They're shaped using geometry nodes. #b3d

Finally ready to call this eye study done. Rendered in Cycles. I spent a good chunk of time writing custom spline tool nodes in substance designer to get the iris doing what i wanted it to do. Now I have a nice procedural way to generate high detailed iris maps! #b3d
