In a joint effort, the FBG team and The Wild Trout Trust relocated 32 trout in the River Mel to rejuvenate the population. Habitat restoration and relocation due to barriers aim to establish a self-sustaining population after declines from droughts and habitat issues. #wildlife

Recently, we did our annual Ely Ouse fish survey from Pope's Corner to Denver Sluice, trialling new sonar tech alongside our current setup. Over three nights, national colleagues joined us to compare new and old sonar data for accuracy🐟 #Hydroacoustics

We recently held a survey on the River Lark to gather data for a potential restoration project. Past channel maintenance has left the river over widened and lacking habitat diversity. Despite finding 8 species including brown trout, numbers were low over the nearly 1 km survey

Recently, we worked alongside CABI to release 200 weevils to help control floating pennywort and we have seen great success so far! These weevils may provide a cost-effective solution to managing this invasive species, which is said to cost the UK £25M annually #wildlife

During the last couple of weeks, we have seen an increase in numbers of elvers and yellow eels in our eel trap. We’ve noticed that their arrival is later this year than the usual, with numbers having ranged from around 250 to 7250 so far #eelmonitoring #wildlife #conservation

We recently attended the Sandringham Game and County Fair with Norfolk Rural Crime - Operation Randall to discuss fisheries offences in the Ouse catchment - we showcased some items we’ve previously seized, such as illegal nets as well as a homemade harpoon! #fisheries

Our enforcement officers have been hard at work patrolling the lakes and rivers in our area, stopping at areas know for set line. We're happy to report that none were discovered. Checks were carried out in locations including Well Creek and the Middle level main drain #angling

Elver numbers are ticking over nicely now at our principal elver pass on the river Great Ouse in #Cambridgeshire after a somewhat delayed start to the 2025 elver run. Almost 200 processed and released upstream of this flood defence structure to continue their migration journey.

An important part of the process of rearing fit for purpose healthy fish, is sampling. Throughout the growing season we pick out a number of each species to check over, measure and weigh. This helps us monitor both the health and feeding rates of our fish.

Working with our partners, we have recently completed the installation of a fish pass on the river #Lark in Suffolk. Turf Lock located in Mildenhall was previously a known barrier to fish migration. For further information please visit this link: gov.uk/government/new…
