De-dashing the New-York Historical Society's name is unnecessary. Archaic Victorian practices should be an essential part of their mission. Enlarge the building, rebrand, but leave the dash. 🤮-🤮-🤮-🤮-🤮 nytimes.com/2024/10/27/art…

The Philadelphia historical commission failed to designate the iconic, expressionist style Roundhouse today, apparently on orders from Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. To not preserve this internationally significant modern building is an embarrassment to our city. inquirer.com/real-estate/co…

To be around bldgs that were clearly built by ppl who cared about the work they were doingーit doesn’t have to be elaborate, the work can even be somewhat common, but whatever the case, whether the work is good or bad, it rubs off on the folks who live there.

The Federal Reserve’s massive restoration/expansion project is centered on the striking Eccles Building in #DC, designed by #Philadelphia architect Paul P. Cret. Photos show the Stripped Classical style pile prior to being dedicated by FDR in 1937.

Is this picture real? Are they seriously razing the East Wing of the White House by mechanical demolition? If any building in the country would justify deconstruction and reuse of the materials, wouldn't it be the White House? Wouldn't many Americans buy a piece of the landmark?

I get that nothing is protected in this country, but, seriously, mechanical demolition? At least when we demolish our beautiful historic schools alumni get a brick....
