The reality is that when a Black person is killed in Chicago, police are much less likely to make an arrest. From 2010–2024, just over 21% of fatal shootings of Black victims were cleared by arrest—compared to nearly 38% of white victims. Justice shouldn’t depend on race.

As we celebrated a victory for gun safety in Illinois yesterday, Manhattan suffered a tragic mass shooting. It’s a painful reminder our fight isn’t over. We stand with communities devastated by gun violence and remain committed to building a future free from it.
