Logan field update: Yesterday, #Okeanos team on #SeascapeAlaska expedition mapped a seamount ~645 km (400 mi) offshore British Columbia, Canada, revealing a peak at 800 m (2,625 ft) depth, as opposed to the 1,300 m (4,265 ft) indicated on older nautical charts! Yay, #science!

Logan field update: During #SeascapeAlaska expedition, #Okeanos team, in partnership with Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), will deploy an Orca Maritime Iver3 autonomous underwater vehicle equipped with various sensors to search for a World War II-era B-25 bomber aircraft.

Logan field update: We've made it to the Aleutian Trench! With depth of at least 7,800 m, animals here benefit from trench's cold, nutrient-dense water. Only ~34% of seafloor surrounding Alaska is mapped, making this a mapping priority. Follow #Okeanos: oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/livestreams/we…

🚨Current #SeascapeAlaska #Okeanos expedition team finds evidence of large gas seep at 2,300 m (7,545 ft) depth off Aleutian Trench! Have now found at least 3 previously unmapped gas seeps. Seeps can provide habitat, alternative energy, medicines, & more. oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/okeanos/explor…

On May 26, NOAA Ship #Okeanos Explorer arrived at Port of Dutch Harbor in Unalaska, Alaska, following completion of our first #SeascapeAlaska expedition. Next expedition will start June 2 & will continue work to map deep waters off the Aleutians: oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/okeanos/explor…
