Farm Friday #27 Mrs. Greenfield Edition?! Yes, we took this time to show our love and appreciation for Mrs. G. as she gets ready to celebrate her birthday tomorrow! Kids shared what they love about her, made her birthday cards, and created their own Mrs. G. Special morning. 🎂❤️

My brother came in to talk with the kids about the important role of police officers as community helpers. Great questions were asked, “a-ha” moments of learning were had, kids received honorary badges, and my brother gained a #1 fan! Fabulous morning all around! 👮‍♂️

We took the Marshmallow Challenge today! The goal: create the tallest freestanding structure with 20 spaghetti noodles, 1 yd of tape and string, 1 marshmallow, a lot of teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation! One group was able to build a structure 20 in. tall!

Our first Farm Friday as a Farmily! Through photos, we toured my farm, met animals, learned about crops, and how to interact with chickens. Then, we went out to share treats with our Oakton chickens. Quote of the day “Our Farmily rocks!” Agreed! ❤️🐓

Farm Friday- sunflower edition! Groups worked together to makes observations and inferences about sunflower heads. Then, they estimated the number of seeds in the head, and found the actual amount. Kids were shocked at the difference between the estimates and actual amounts. 🌻

Farm Friday! We learned about chicken breeds, and how to properly handle chickens. We had a great time visiting the Oakton ladies! Some members of the Farmily overcame their fear of holding a chicken. So proud of them! 🐔

Mrs. Greenfield, the peanut butter to my jelly, was our guest reader today! What a joy it is to see kids experience a beautiful story with an amazing teacher! Mrs. G. loves the book The Proudest Blue, so I knew she had to come “feel the feels” of this story with the kids. ❤️

Our environmentalists are learning about Virginia’s natural resources, gathering ideas about their impact on our environment, and thinking about how we can reduce the use of those resources in our community. 🌲 🪨

Farm Friday- Feather Edition 🪶 Today we learned about the purpose of feathers, molting, and the many uses for feathers. I brought feathers from my farm, and we practiced our quill writing/drawing skills. (Much more challenging than the kids expected!) We ❤️ our Farmily!

Thelma, the thankful turkey, returned yesterday for Farm Friday. We learned all about turkeys, and collaborated on thinking about the many things in our lives we are thankful for, and wrote them on Thelma’s feathers. Quote of the day, “I am thankful to be part of our Farmily!”
