It's normal to be anxious. We live in a very anxiety-provoking world. It's not anxiety that gets us into trouble, per se, but the things we do to try to avoid anxiety. If we let anxiety be present then it isn't a problem at all. #anxiety #anxious #therapy #mentalhealth

Feeling discomfort is part of being alive. Sometimes discomfort indicates an issue that needs to be addressed, but it, in and of itself, is not a problem that needs to be solved. When it comes to feelings, our problems start with the idea that discomfort is a problem. #anxiety

The question "What does that mean?" can be a dangerous one for people with OCD. That's because trying to find absolute certainty about meaning often keeps people stuck. #OCD #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #pureo #pureocd #harmocd #rocd #sexualorientationocd #relationshipocd #pocd

Trying to get rid of #panic makes panic worse. If you're noticing a #panicattack coming on, the best thing that you can do is to non-judgmentally notice the experience. If you practice this - i.e. you essentially accept panic - then the feeling can rise and fall more easily.

Take recovery one step at a time. You don't have to face your biggest fears first. You can practice with things that are less anxiety provoking and work your way up just like you would with lifting weights at the gym. #mentalillnessrecovery #mentalillness #ocd #anxiety

You can feel anxious and simultaneously meet anxiety with compassion and acceptance. In so doing, you're changing your relationship with anxiety. In changing your relationship with anxiety you're effectively reducing your anxiety. #anxiety #anxietyrecovery #anxietyawareness

Be gentle with yourself. This world can be difficult. Navigating life can be difficult. You deserve your own kindness in the presence of the difficulties. #mentalhealth #ocdrecovery #anxietyrecovery #psychotherapy #therapistsofinstagram #therapist #selfcompassion #selfkindness

Wishing for circumstances to be different than they keeps you trapped in your mind and does nothing to change the circumstances. And perpetually wishing is not a great motivator either. Instead, try taking steps toward change, one small step at a time.

Ever watched a baby learn to talk? First, they make all sorts of sounds that are not words. Then they make sounds that are words that they don't understand. Eventually, though, they put the pieces together, learning a language from NOTHING. How do they do this? They keep at it.

When in doubt, keep it simple. Come back to this present moment and bear witness to yourself breathing in and breathing out. That's really all we need to do. Just keep breathing. #mentalhealth #mentalillness #ocdrecovery #ocd #anxiety #anxietyrecovery #orangecountytherapist

While you may benefit from changing your behaviors, you don't need to erase any part of yourself to do that. If you make space for all of your complexities - the thoughts and the feelings in that sweet mind of yours - you can focus on taking steps toward what matters to you. #ocd

If you're always unkind toward yourself, your achievements won't suddenly make you kind. If you celebrate your victories, then you're more likely to keep working toward your goals and have a better relationship with yourself all the while. #selfcompassion #selfkindness #selftalk

Part of walking toward the things that matter to you inevitably involves stumbling. The important question isn't whether or not you fall, it's whether or not you get back up again. #growthmindset #growth #growthroughwhatyougothrough #mentalhealth #MentalHealthMatters

While we can’t rid ourselves of discomfort, we can wrap it in love and understanding. We can comfort ourselves in discomfort. #mentalhealth #selfcompassion #bekind #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #anxietytherapy #anxiety #ocdtherapy #ocd #anxietyrecovery

Being aware of uncertainty can be painful. But we don't choose what arises in our awareness. We only choose how we navigate it. If we allow for awareness of uncertainty to be present and shift our attention then we can experience pain while fostering other awarenesses. #ocd

You needn't answer every question that pops into your mind. Many questions don't have a single answer. Some questions are unanswerable. If you find yourself stuck trying to answer a question, and you aren't making any headway, you can take a step back. It's ok to no know. #ocd

Anxiety isn't high on most people's wish list. But if you prioritize getting rid of anxiety, it will interfere with doing what matters to you. So consider what is on your wish list, and if you're willing to give that up to feel better. #anxiety #anxious #anxietydisorders #ocd

Just because you feel guilty, doesn't mean that you've done anything wrong. If guilt arises, and you believe you haven't done anything that merits guilt, you can just let the feeling of guilt be present without addressing it. #ocd #ocdrecovery #obsessivecompulsivedisorder
